The first trailer for Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune” got released online and we can sense the epicness of the movie from the start of the trailer. It’s the adaptation from Frank Herbert’s 1965 science fiction novel. Dune has long been called the “unadaptable” book. Herbert’s novel, published in 1965, is a science-fiction epic that introduced readers to a fantastic world where humans have conquered space travel and established a multi-planetary empire known as the Imperium. According to Denis Villeneuve, his adaptation will cover roughly half of the epic space series.Check out the trailer below!

To understand “Dune,” you need to first know two things: One, the universe of the distant future is run by a space Emperor and a collection of noble houses that each govern their patch of stars as they see fit; two, there’s a magic dust that runs everything called “the spice.”

The following are the biggest reveals from the trailer.

Visions of Chani

Paul Atreides is noted for his frequent prophetic visions, but none are so frequent as the woman he would eventually meet and known as the Fremen Chani ( Zendaya ). The Fremen are the native population on the planet Arrakis; these people have learned to survive in the harsh desert, and play a key role in Paul Atreides personal journey. The trailer appears to show both his initial visions of Chani, as well as him meeting her following the destruction of his House.

The Gom Jabbar Test

“Do you often dream things that happen just as you dreamed them ?”

                                                                                   – Gaius Helen Mohiam

“Yes”                                                                           – Paul Atreides

“The test is simple, remove your hand from the box and you die”

                                                                                   – Gaius Helen Mohiam

“What’s in the box”                                                     – Paul Atreides

“Pain”                                                                         – Gaius Helen Mohiam

The above references were the lines in the official trailer of DUNE, for The Gom Jabbar Test humanity. Essentially, the great test of fear is administered by the Bene Gesserit — a powerful ancient order of women — to test and evaluate one’s human superiority.

Lady Jessica

Lady Jessica will be played by REBECCA FERGUSON. The Bene Gesserit Lady Jessica is a lover of Duke Leto and mother to Paul. According to the novel, Jessica escapes to the desert with Paul where they find Chani. And because of her Bene Gesserit training, is able to undergo the ritual to become the Fremen’s spiritual leader, Reverend Mother.

Sardaukar On Salusa Secundus

The trailer appears to reveal the elite super soldiers of the Emperor Shaddam IV, the Sardaukar, on the harsh planet Salusa Secundus. Salusa Secundus is a prison planet. It’s an incredibly brutal place to live, so the Sardaukar are trained there in order to make them one of the most fearsome military forces in the empire.

Glossu Rabban Harkonnen

We finally got a glimpse of Dave Bautista as Glossu Rabban in the official trailer of Dune. He’s Vladimir’s nephew and a Harkonnen enforcer, in the novel, he is a feared man, known by the Fremen as “the Beast.” He appears to be one of the primary antagonists in Villeneuve’s Dune.

Paul And Jessica Meet A Sandworm

We all can see the most exciting and the interesting part of the official trailer was at the end of the trailer, where Paul and his Mother Lady Jessica meet a Sandworm. This was the moment where The Sandworm, the massive creature got revealed. Paul and Lady Jessica were running away from The Sandworm and hid among the rocks, but then Paul appeared to confront the worm. — perhaps indicating the character will tame it in the upcoming DUNE adaptations .

Duke Leto Atreides

The trailer reveals the head of House Atreides, Duke Leto. This isn’t the first time viewers have seen him  — earlier promotional material showed Isaac in the role — but it is nice to get a more complete idea of how the actor is approaching the character. In the novel Dune, Leto is aware that he’s entering a trap by relocating to Arrakis but is unable to refuse the Emperor — based on Isaac’s worried facial expression, it appears this version of the character feels the same way.

The Destruction Of House Atreides

The sovereign leader of the interstellar empire, Padishah Emperor Shaddam IV, sends House Atreides to Dune as a trap, designed to take down a family he views as a threat to his own power

By the end of the trailer, we heard Gaius Helen Mohiam saying

“ One day the legend will be born, all the civilization depends on it”.

This reference was referring to Paul because Paul is the only one who passed the test of Gom Jabbar Test humanity. This states he’s the only one in the family who don’t fear death and all will serve him as a Lord which you can easily heard Jason Momoa saying “ My Lord, Duke”

“I must not fear, fear is the mind killer, when the fear is gone only I will remain” – Paul Atreides.

The above line reflects Paul will have to face many challenges to remove fear because Paul’s father who will be ruling the entire planet will lose everything, even the richer one. This movie will explore how the character Paul will fight for his ancestors and to rule the entire planet.

The movie Dune is set to release on 1st of October, 2021.

We can expect a sequel and a series to this movie. Though there is no green-light to the sequel to this movie but according to the director, that the 2021 film will roughly cover the first half of the novel, with a follow up covering the remaining half. He explained, “I would not agree to make this adaptation of the book with one single movie”, says Villeneuve.
